Chinese company Zeekr claims to be able to charge electric cars in 10 minutes

Chinese car company Zeekr claims to have a new solution to the long charging times of electric cars. According to Zeekr, they can reduce a car’s charging time to 10 minutes.

One of the biggest obstacles in electric driving is charging the car. Electric car batteries often do not last as long as a gasoline tank, and it is not always easy to find a charging station. And then there is the problem that it takes so long to charge a car. But Chinese brand Zeekr now claims to be able to put an end to that.

Tesla is currently the leader when it comes to fast charging. Elon Musk’s company, with the right combination of battery and charging station, can be at 80% in about 20 minutes. That’s comparable to what we can do in fast charging in the Netherlands. Zeekr claims to be able to reduce that to 10 minutes.

According to Zeekr, the solution to this lies in the type of battery the company uses. Zeekr’s batteries are made of lithium, iron and phosphorus. Tesla is also already experimenting with these types of batteries, but (like most electric car manufacturers) is still primarily using nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries. According to Zeekr, lithium batteries are better suited for the new charging system.

Zeekr is one of the biggest players in China when it comes to electric driving. The company opened 500 charging stations across the country last year. Cars from Zeekr are also already available in the Netherlands. Parent company Geely is betting heavily on electric driving and is also major shareholder of Lotus, Polestar and Volvo.
